Energy referral schemes get lumped together, but the four we track aren't really competing for the same moment — they cover four different purchases: switching who bills you for gas and electricity, charging an EV in public, ordering a new car, and getting a boiler or heat pump fitted. None of them require you to be doing all four at once. Here's what each one actually pays, what triggers it, and which is worth chasing if you happen to be in the market anyway.
This is the one anyone can claim: get a quote through the referral link, let Octopus handle the switch with your current supplier, and £50 lands as bill credit for both of you once your supply goes live — no interruption, no engineer visit, done in about two weeks. It's the highest-value, lowest-effort offer in this group, and worth checking even if you're not unhappy with your current supplier — switching costs you nothing but the ten minutes it takes to get a quote.
Electroverse is Octopus's roaming EV charging app, not a home energy switch — you don't need to be an Octopus Energy customer to use it. The catch that trips people up: signing up isn't enough. Both you and your referrer need to complete a genuine public charge before the £10 splits £5 each into your accounts. If you drive an EV and haven't consolidated your charging apps yet, it's worth doing regardless of the fiver — one account instead of five separate apps and RFID cards is the real win.
This only applies if you're placing a genuine new order for a Model 3, Model Y, Model S or Model X — the referral link needs to be applied at the point of ordering, not added afterwards, and Tesla has paused and relaunched this scheme more than once, so treat the current terms as temporary rather than a reason to buy. If you were already configuring an order, using someone's public referral link costs nothing and adds free Supercharging miles or a price cut automatically.
BOXT's referral only pays out once a real installation — boiler, heat pump, air conditioning, battery or solar — is completed, with your £100 applied to the order and your referrer's £100 voucher arriving about four weeks later. EV chargers are excluded. As with Tesla, this is a bonus on a purchase you'd already decided to make, not a reason to make it — get a comparison quote or two before booking, same as you would for any home-improvement job this size.
If you only do one thing from this list, switch your energy supplier through the Octopus link — it's the only offer here with no prerequisite purchase attached, pays the most for the least effort, and takes about ten minutes to start. Electroverse is worth doing if you already drive an EV. Tesla and BOXT are only relevant if you're already committed to that purchase — don't let a referral bonus talk you into a car or a boiler you weren't already planning to buy.
Full terms, redemption steps and FAQs for each scheme are on their individual offer pages — worth a read before you commit, especially for the two purchase-linked ones.
