Octopus Energy's £50-each referral is the benchmark energy switching bonus in the UK, and it comes attached to a supplier that consistently tops customer-satisfaction tables. The switch itself is handled entirely by Octopus: your supply is never interrupted, your old supplier is notified for you, and the whole thing completes in around two weeks. The £50 credit is applied to your balance shortly after your switch goes live, effectively covering a chunk of your first month. Octopus also offers innovative tariffs — from EV-friendly overnight rates to tracker pricing — that you can move onto after joining. If you were switching supplier anyway, arriving via a referral link is £50 of free bill credit for zero extra effort.

Questions
Octopus Energy referral FAQs
- Will my energy be cut off during the switch?
- No. Switching is purely an administrative change — the same pipes and wires supply your home, and only the billing company changes.
- When does the £50 credit show up?
- Typically within a few days of your supply going live with Octopus. It appears as account credit and offsets your next bill.
- What if I'm in a fixed contract with my current supplier?
- Check your exit fees first. If you're within 49 days of your fix ending, suppliers can't charge exit fees, making that the ideal switching window.
